How to seal a stone worktop?

Short answer

The impregnator is chosen according to the stone's finish. A polished marble, granite or sintered stone worktop is protected by an anti-stain impregnator: TWINS.TW (solvent-based) or HIDROBRAVO (water-based). Once dry, both are suitable for food contact.

Raw, honed or outdoor stone is protected by TWINSEBIN.M — without a noticeable change in shade. If you want to deepen the colour (wet-stone effect), use TWINSWET. Remember that an impregnator does not protect marble against acids — that is what RAKU is for.

Finish → impregnator

  • Polished marble, granite, sintered stone — TWINS.TW or HIDROBRAVO.
  • Raw, honed, outdoors — TWINSEBIN.M (with TWINSFONDO primer).
  • Wet-stone effect — TWINSWET, AVO or HIDROWET (water-based).
  • Porous stone, graffiti protection — Protector Plus (ABR).
  • Marble in the kitchen (lemon, wine) — RAKU.

How to apply

The surface must be clean and completely dry. The impregnator is applied thinly and the excess is wiped off before it dries so that no streaks remain. Exact dosage and coverage are in the technical data sheet — we will send it for your specific application.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a sealed worktop come into contact with food?

Yes — a laboratory test confirms that a surface protected with TWINS.TW or HIDROBRAVO is suitable for food contact once dry.

Does an impregnator protect against acids?

No. An impregnator protects against water and grease. Only RAKU protects marble against acids (lemon, wine, vinegar).

Water-based or solvent-based impregnator?

Both protect against stains. The water-based one (HIDROBRAVO) is more convenient indoors, while the solvent-based one (TWINS.TW) is the classic choice of fabrication shops. We will match the version to your workplace.
