How to protect marble against lemon, wine and vinegar?

Short answer

Marble goes dull from acids because acid etches the calcium carbonate it is made of. An ordinary impregnator protects against water and grease stains but not against acids — the mark from lemon or wine will remain anyway.

RAKU (Lantania) protects against acids: a transparent, imperceptibly thin layer that bonds with the marble surface and takes the acid attack. The stone keeps its shine, colour and depth, and lemon, wine, vinegar, coffee, soap and perfume no longer dull the worktop. RAKU is applied by authorised applicators.

What else RAKU offers

  • Invisible layer — on polished surfaces shine and depth remain intact, and on honed ones a delicately satin finish appears.
  • Stain protection — including oil and coffee.
  • High-temperature resistance — safe in the kitchen and next to the hob.
  • UV stability — it doesn't yellow, so it also works outdoors.
  • Easy maintenance — a neutral detergent and a soft microfibre cloth are enough.

Where to use it

Kitchen islands and worktops, tables, bathroom vanities, furniture and decorative surfaces — in homes, hotels, restaurants and on yachts. On marble, marble-cement agglomerates and terrazzo.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does an impregnator protect marble against lemon?

No. An anti-stain impregnator (e.g. TWINS.TW) protects against water and grease, but not against acids. RAKU protects against lemon, wine and vinegar.

How to remove a dull lemon mark on marble?

An etched mark cannot be washed off — the shine has to be restored, e.g. with the KIT BELLO treatment or by polishing. Afterwards it is worth protecting the worktop with RAKU so the mark doesn't come back.

Does RAKU change the appearance of marble?

On polished surfaces it is practically invisible. On honed and brushed ones it gives a delicately satin finish that brings out the stone's natural shades.

Who applies RAKU?

Only authorised applicators, so the result is always the best possible. Ask us about application in Poland.
